SILC Postdoc Member and member of our Spatial Network.

Erin received her PhD (2011) in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Waterloo under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Fugelsang. She is currently working as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago under the supervision of Dr. Sian Beilock. Broadly speaking, Erin is interested in the influence of emotional factors (e.g., anxiety, stereotype endorsement) on performance in mathematics in children and adults. The majority of her research has focused on math anxiety and trying to understand 1) why it is that highly math anxious students perform worse than their non-math anxious peers and 2) why students develop math anxiety. Erin is also interested in psychometric-type properties of the laboratory tasks and their associated effects that are used to assess numerical representation (e.g. reliability and validity of the numerical distance effect and the SNARC effect).
